So to be honest I rarely come here anymore. I've long since accepted the fact that thanks to the combined efforts of furries, crappy photomanips, detestably bad fanart and random, gratuitous nudity, there is no longer anything deviant nor artistic about this once-useful and interesting site. All the good artists I used to follow have packed up their galleries and gone to sites where art is actually required to be artistic (such as *coughConceptArt.orgcough* or gotten their own websites or just...disappeared.

However, now and then a google search for something unrelated, or a quest for textures to use in a school project, will drag me back here...only to reaffirm my hatred of what dA has become.

Today, I felt inspired to write a bitchy journal post because of this:

Demotivational Posters.

Oh, they're funny enough on 4chan and google images. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against demotivational posters--especially the golden few that are actually funny.

However, a screencapture of a movie/game/other stolen media with some text thrown under it is NOT ART. It is stolen intellectual property, it is claiming something that isn't yours, and most of it isn't even funny.

I just did a dA search for "Assassin's Creed," knowing it was mostly going to get me a bunch of crappy yaoi-related fanart between Altair and whatever one-armed-man is named, but that's okay, I was prepared for that...

What I wasn't prepared for were the dozens of demotivational posters that popped up as well.

In some ways dA reminds me of a more graphics-heavy, even more immature and weeabooish version of 4chan. One demonstration of this is the way dA goes through 'fads.' Apparently, now the fad is demotivational posters. Well, it's the natural progression in a society of kidlets and weeaboos who think that tracing a screenshot from an anime is completely acceptable original art, and that crappy cosplay involving heavyset girls trying to portray thin, effeminate males is DTF-worthy, most especially if it's from a show drenched in banality like Naruto or Bleach. Still, it serves as an ever more solid and depressing message that dA is nothing more than a Photobucket and "wai-wai" board for furry weeaboo children.

What's funny is the fact that if anyone reads this, I'm sure they'll immediately think that I hate anime, cosplay, yaoi, etc., when in fact I'm a moderate fan of all these things. The only thing I resent is that this community has gone to hell because of the pervasive nature of these fads.

I'll say it again:
STEALING A SCREENSHOT OF SOMETHING YOU DID NOT DO AND ADDING TEXT UNDER IT IS NOT ART!! As such, it has no business being on deviantART! If you want to show off your "hard work" (lawl), then upload it to photobucket or flickr or even one of the sites DEVOTED to such demotivational posters! Don't add to the crap that dA has devolved into just to get a bunch of idiot kids tell you "lol dats so funy ur awsum 4 dis."

I'll give you a little hint: idiots like that have such comments macroed...and they spam them to everything they see involving a character/world/etc. they enjoy. You can--and probably do--draw a stick figure, put a caption under it saying "this is naruto" and you will get favs.

Ugh, I have no good conclusion to this. I just wanted to bitch. Okay, I'm done.

See you in another half year, dA, and even then only to laugh at how even more pathetic you've come.
