So to be honest I rarely come here anymore. I've long since accepted the fact that thanks to the combined efforts of furries, crappy photomanips, detestably bad fanart and random, gratuitous nudity, there is no longer anything deviant nor artistic about this once-useful and interesting site. All the good artists I used to follow have packed up their galleries and gone to sites where art is actually required to be artistic (such as *coughConceptArt.orgcough* or gotten their own websites or just...disappeared.
However, now and then a google search for something unrelated, or a quest for textures to use in a school project, will drag me back here...only to reaffirm my hatred of what dA has become.
Today, I felt inspired to write a bitchy journal post because of this:
Demotivational Posters.
Oh, they're funny enough on 4chan and google images. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against demotivational posters--especially the golden few that are actually funny.
However, a screencapture of a movie/game/other stolen media with some text thrown under it is NOT ART. It is stolen intellectual property, it is claiming something that isn't yours, and most of it isn't even funny.
I just did a dA search for "Assassin's Creed," knowing it was mostly going to get me a bunch of crappy yaoi-related fanart between Altair and whatever one-armed-man is named, but that's okay, I was prepared for that...
What I wasn't prepared for were the dozens of demotivational posters that popped up as well.
In some ways dA reminds me of a more graphics-heavy, even more immature and weeabooish version of 4chan. One demonstration of this is the way dA goes through 'fads.' Apparently, now the fad is demotivational posters. Well, it's the natural progression in a society of kidlets and weeaboos who think that tracing a screenshot from an anime is completely acceptable original art, and that crappy cosplay involving heavyset girls trying to portray thin, effeminate males is DTF-worthy, most especially if it's from a show drenched in banality like Naruto or Bleach. Still, it serves as an ever more solid and depressing message that dA is nothing more than a Photobucket and "wai-wai" board for furry weeaboo children.
What's funny is the fact that if anyone reads this, I'm sure they'll immediately think that I hate anime, cosplay, yaoi, etc., when in fact I'm a moderate fan of all these things. The only thing I resent is that this community has gone to hell because of the pervasive nature of these fads.
I'll say it again:
STEALING A SCREENSHOT OF SOMETHING YOU DID NOT DO AND ADDING TEXT UNDER IT IS NOT ART!! As such, it has no business being on deviantART! If you want to show off your "hard work" (lawl), then upload it to photobucket or flickr or even one of the sites DEVOTED to such demotivational posters! Don't add to the crap that dA has devolved into just to get a bunch of idiot kids tell you "lol dats so funy ur awsum 4 dis."
I'll give you a little hint: idiots like that have such comments macroed...and they spam them to everything they see involving a character/world/etc. they enjoy. You can--and probably do--draw a stick figure, put a caption under it saying "this is naruto" and you will get favs.
Ugh, I have no good conclusion to this. I just wanted to bitch. Okay, I'm done.
See you in another half year, dA, and even then only to laugh at how even more pathetic you've come.

Another sporadic update...

I finished another picture for class and uploaded it. The colors are weird but that's what the teacher wanted. Sigh.
In Jewelry class we're doing an "homage to an artist" of our choice, so naturally I picked my best friend Angel
That necessitated looking through her gallery for inspiration, which of course brought me to near tears within five minutes of this. Hard to believe that it's only two months shy of a year since she died. Still feels like yesterday. ARGH.
Anyway...trying to get into the habit of going to the "newest" entries and offering comments to those who need it (e.g. people who aren't already immensely popular and will no doubt have their egos thoroughly stroked within five minutes of uploading anything). It's irritating though because it seems like at least half of all the submitted deviations are crappy cosplay pictures, another quarter is fanart (crappy and some not so crappy) and another quarter is furry art. Leaving, like, 2% of stuff I actually care for, lol. But whatever, I'm trying to be pleasant...but I do still resent that even crappy fanart automatically gets a thousand favs, simply because it's about popular characters >.< On the other hand, even that might be more palatable than the badly drawn but huge breasted balloon girls who get even more favs...*shudder*
I'm all for freedom of expression, but why does stuff like that have to take over deviantart? ;_;

BTW, not that anyone reads my journal, but are there any really good roleplayers out there who're on fairly often? My current partner (the most decent I've found since Angel died) is never online anymore and I need my RP fix >.< Now accepting applications, or something, but please be warned I'm a total grammar nazi

Soon, I promise. I just...ugh. So tired. So many classes and other engagements going on. This semester is kiiilling me x.x And you know, still dealing with Angel's death and the incredible dearth left behind without her. Ugh.
Buuuut anyway. Got my projects back in Jewelcrafting class. A- but I was the only A in class << I made a bunch of iconic video game things into wearable metal pendants. Triforce, Hyrule Shield, Pyramid Head's Head, Halflife logo, stuff like that. You'll see. Although my camera sucks, so I dunno. Maybe I'll see how it turns out with my scanner. The objects are relatively flat, so. We'll see.
Yes, soon x.x Just so busy...meh...I hate being busy...
Been writing more than drawing lately, but nothing I really want to put up here << Forgive me, but I still have delusions of something publishing a book, and there's just too much thievery online for me to post something if I have intentions of getting it sold later on. Maybe I'm just being paranoid and overconfident though, haha. One of Angel's and my favorite pastimes was hunting down art thieves who'd stolen her work (or just others' work) and showing them the Wrath of Khan. Hehe, so fun. Except when you find it on sites where you can't do anything about it. Not so fun x.x
Okay, time for bed before I die. Getting my hair done like Alice Cullen's tomorrow! (I'm not a twitard, I just like her haircut! x.x Even though my face is too long for it to look good x.x ah well.)

The other is too depressing. Meh.
I got Corel Painter, trying to figure it out, it's so weird. But I've been totally uninspired drawing-wise lately for obvious reasons, so I'm trying to find something to stimulate myself. It would help if the video tutorials and stuff actually stated what kinds of brushes are good to use x.x
And also, not that anyone really reads this, but I'm still totally looking for a new roleplay partner since my old one, um, is no longer available. I'm up for most anything, as long as the characters are original. The only thing is...I'm a total grammar nazi, and I can't play with people who're too lazy to learn the difference between "your" and "you're," and who write as though they're trying to script a movie, not write a novel-- "He walked into the room. He sat down. He said 'Hi.' He ordered a drink. He drank it." Sorry, that's really boring x.x
I've only found one single person in the past month who comes even close to what my old partner played like, and sadly, the new girl works all the time and seldom feels like RPing when she is home. But everyone else I've tried sucks at English and sucks at writing, aagh! It's not like I think I'm the greatest writer ever, far from it, but at least I do TRY to make my posts coherent and interesting to read! Aagh!
*rant over*
Anyway yeah...still massively depressed, naturally...still miss her to death...keep having dreams about her o.- You know, the usual. Nights are the worst. It's so hard to fall asleep at night, no matter how exhausted I am. Just keep remembering her and being sad.
But uh, yeah. Praying that time helps, like they always say it will. Though my dad, ever-cheerful as he is, assures me that time doesn't matter, that Penny Lee (his dead fiancee I'm named after) died thirty years ago but it still feels like yesterday to him.
Well, crap x.x Really? I mean really? ...Joy.
Ugh. Don't wanna draw.
